A Beautiful Day for Blossoms
What a great day for the Leelanau Cherry Blossom Tour! Blue skies and white blossoms against the backdrop of Leelanau's rolling hills and the deep blues of Lake Michigan made for scenic vistas all along the tour.
When we arrived shortly after 11 at the Connie Binsfeld Building in Lake Leelanau, we were greeted by the sight of a full parking lot and a long line of people awaiting their turns to board the next BATA tour bus. We opted to pick up one of the maps printed especially for the occasion and drive the route ourselves. The map listed the farms along the route north of Lake Leelanau, including a brief description of each, and included fun facts about Leelanau County cherries. Did you know Leelanau grows more tart cherries than any other county in the nation, accounting for 25% of all tart cherries grown in the U.S.?
Hats off to the Leelanau Conservancy, the Leelanau Conservation District and the Leelanau Enterprise for sponsoring the event. Their friendly volunteers passed out free cherry brats, cookies from Cherry Republic and dried cherries for tour-goers to enjoy. To everyone involved in pulling off this event, thank you! Nice to see so many people enjoying themselves. We certainly did.
