Welcome to Traverse Gourmet
We think northwest Michigan has it all! The seasons, the people, the food all make this area a great place to visit; a great place to live. Our goal with Traverse Gourmet is to make available a variety of your favorite local foods. We have created one location from which you can shop some of the tastiest food created by thoughtful artisans.
Like you, we want to know where our food comes from and value the relationships that arise. Traverse Gourmet is your online connection to northwest Michigan artisan food.
Environmental Commitment
At Traverse Gourmet we also are committed to supporting and improving our precious natural resources. As a 1% for the Planet member, Traverse Gourmet donates at least one percent of our sales to environmental organizations. The majority of our giving goes to an organization doing important work for the region - The Michigan Land Use Institute.
We've chosen our food artisans selectively; each one placing an emphasis on naturally produced, organic and fair trade products. In addition, where possible, we and our partners use earth-friendly packaging.
- Our packing peanuts are starch-based and are biodegradable in water;
- All our gourmet food gifts come packaged in a reusable, recycled cotton tote;
- Our tissue paper is made with 100% recycled fibers;
- Many of the ingredients in Grocer's Daughter Chocolate's handmade chocolates are locally grown, and their cello bags are compostable;
- Higher Grounds Trading Company is Michigan's only organic and fair trade coffee roaster;
- Food For Thought is the first and only fair trade preserve maker in the nation;
- Naturally Nutty uses only organic nuts;
- Just Good Chocolate uses all organic and fair trade ingredients in their Nibblers;
- Pleasanton Brick Oven Bakery's breads are naturally leavened, brick oven baked and uses Michigan-grown, organic grains;
- Light of Day Organics is Michigan's only certified organic and biodynamic tea farm.
Happy eating!
